Note chart for the 10-hole diatonic harmonica (blues harp) in C, Richter tuning. Each note is a hole number plus blow or draw. Hole 4 blow is C (C4), and holes 4–7 give one full major scale. Frequently asked questions
Where is C on the harmonica?
Hole 4 blow is C4. Hole 1 blow is C an octave lower and hole 7 blow an octave higher.
What is the difference between blow and draw?
Each hole has two reeds: one sounds when you blow, the other when you draw. Hole 4 gives C on the blow and D on the draw.
What is bending?
Changing the shape of your mouth to lower a note by a half step to a step and a half. Draw bends work on holes 1–6, blow bends on holes 8–10. Bent notes in the chart are played on that hole with the pitch lowered.
What about harmonicas in other keys?
The hole and blow/draw layout is the same; only the note names shift. On a G harmonica, every C in this chart becomes G.
