Piccolo Fingering Chart
Piccolo fingerings are the same as flute fingerings. Because the piccolo has no low-C foot, its lowest note is D4. It sounds one octave higher than written, so the “sounds” column shows the pitch an octave above the written note.

Frequently asked questions
Are piccolo and flute fingerings the same?
Yes. A flutist can switch directly. The only differences are the missing low C and C♯ and the fact that the piccolo sounds an octave higher.
What is the range of the piccolo?
Written D4 to C7, sounding D5 to C8 – the highest instrument in the orchestra.
Is piccolo music written like flute music?
Yes. Piccolo parts are written one octave below the sounding pitch, so playing a flute part on piccolo sounds an octave higher.
The high notes feel hard to play.
The piccolo needs a smaller lip aperture and faster air. Many players use musician’s earplugs for long practice sessions.
