Breath pressure changes the ocarina’s pitch a lot: blow harder for high notes and softer for low ones. Sub-hole placement and the top notes vary between makers, so if your ocarina came with a chart, trust that one.

What are sub-holes?
Two small holes next to the pinky holes, used for the notes below C: B, B♭ and A. Ten-hole ocarinas do not have them.
Does the chart work for soprano or bass ocarinas?
The fingerings are the same; the pitch differs by an octave. A soprano C sounds an octave above this chart, a bass C an octave below. On F or G ocarinas the note names shift.
My high notes crack.
High E and F have almost every hole open, so air escapes easily and you need to blow harder. Support the ocarina with your thumbs and pinkies so it does not slip.
